The Reason Why To Choose Custom Car Parts

by Jeffrey Greigoriel on Jul.29, 2010, under Truck News

People love to personalize things and that particularly goes for their cars. The idea of custom car parts is not new but with the rising amount of TV shows dedicated to personalizing cars there is an explosion in the interest in custom car parts.

Some people select subtle custom car parts like decals and accessories while other persons become hardcore custom car parts fanatics and start changing around engines and other parts of the car that can increase performance as well as make the car look more like a customized vehicle. Several custom car parts have even been outlawed in a few states while others are just plain dangerous.

For a time people were putting lights in their radiator grills that looked a lot like the lights that are installed in police cars. These kinds of custom car parts have been outlawed. Many people love to install nitrous in their cars to soup up performance and these custom car parts are known to kill people. But with custom car parts, it is not always about the new products.

Just as much as modern car parts have been increasing in popularity therefore have custom car parts for antique vehicles as well. A big industry has grown up around the community of individuals who take older vintage vehicles and fix them up for show, to race them, or just to have them in their collection. As this community of antique auto enthusiasts grows the custom car parts makers out to support them grows too.

Is It Ever Too Much?

Most states and communities have laws about custom car parts. In some cases, several communities can invoke local noise ordinances to keep people from increasing the volume of their exhaust pipes or from blasting a stereo which is obviously much too loud for the vehicle it is in. Always check to ensure that any modifications which you end up installing are not going to make your vehicle illegal or in any way not able to be driven on public roads.

It is great to have a custom car parts and vehicle but if you have no way of showing it off and then what is the point of doing it? Everyone likes to make a personal statement and many persons make their statement with the vehicle which they are seen in every day. Whatever your preference is that always make sure that what you are doing is legal and safe.

After purchasing parts for your car, it is your time to think about purchasing cordless radar detectors and motorcycle radar detector. Both of these kinds of radar detector are good to be set up in your motorcycle.

by Paul Myers on Jul.25, 2010, under Truck News

The UK has an abundance of road laws, and if you’re a driver on the UKs roads then chances you have at some point fell fowl of one of them. Surprisingly most of the UKs drivers are not actually aware of what they are being charged with and why when they are stopped. A Closer Look At Your Car’s Radiator

by Eric Driver on Jul.24, 2010, under Truck News

The engine gets the spotlight. When you buy a new or used car, one of the first things you find out is the number of cylinders, level of horsepower, and gas mileage. However, this assembly depends heavily on your radiator, a component that receives very little fanfare.

Your radiator is responsible for keeping the temperature surrounding your engine under control. It accomplishes this by circulating coolant. Over time, however, debris and rust can contaminate the assembly, and prevent it from doing its job. If the problem is not fixed, and instead worsens, your engine will overheat.

It’s worth noting that all radiators eventually cope with debris and rust. This component doesn’t last forever. But you can take steps to prevent the accumulation of contaminants, and thus prolong its useful life. We’ll explore this assembly in more detail below.

Adding Too Much Antifreeze In Cold Weather

A common mistake is to “overdose” your radiator with antifreeze when the winter months arrive. A lot of people add 100% antifreeze because they assume it will provide more protection from freezing. However, it’s unnecessary.

Most coolants are already formulated with a 50%-50% blend of antifreeze and water. This blend will protect your engine from freezing down to -34 degrees Fahrenheit. Few locations are battered by cold weather that falls below this temperature. For this reason, an antifreeze-heavy blend is pointless.

There are a few places that receive severely cold weather. In such cases, a 69%-31% blend (antifreeze and water, respectively) is appropriate. This will protect your engine from freezing down to a temperature of -90 degrees Fahrenheit.

How A Radiator Fault Causes Your Engine To Overheat

Recall that coolant needs to circulate through your engine in order to keep the temperature from rising above a maximum level. Unfortunately, there are many factors that can prevent this from occurring. For example, there may be an insufficient level of coolant in the cooling system; the thermostat that controls the flow of coolant may fail to open; the radiator cap might fail; or one of the impellers inside the water pump might break or become loose.

Each of these scenarios – and others – can influence whether your cooling system is able to absorb the heat created by the engine. If this heat cannot be transported away from the assembly and allowed to dissipate from the radiator, the temperature surrounding your engine will continue to rise. Unless you turn your vehicle off, the assembly will overheat.

What Happens When Your Engine Overheats?

Your engine’s optimal operating temperature is between 195 and 220 degrees Fahrenheit. A 50-50 coolant blend will normally withstand boiling up to 265 degrees Fahrenheit. (Technically, this depends on the psi of your radiator cap.) If that temperature is reached, the coolant will boil and become unable to absorb heat. An assortment of engine problems will rapidly develop.

Your engine may experience detonation (i.e. spark knock) and pre-ignition. Both circumstances will damage your pistons. Spark knock can also cause damage to your rings and rod bearings. Your head gasket will also fail as the engine block and cylinder head undergo heat expansion at different rates. Eventually, your engine will seize, but only after expensive damage has occurred.

Tips For Maintaining Your Radiator

If you’re experienced with automotive parts and have access to the right tools, you can check the individual pieces of your cooling system to verify they’re working properly. Otherwise, you’ll need to have your mechanic do so.

Check the system for leaks. If coolant is escaping, it means there is less available for heat absorption. Also, inspect the fan and thermostat. A failing fan – usually due to a bad clutch – will prevent heat from dissipating; a failing thermostat will prevent coolant from traveling from the engine to the radiator. Manually examine the hoses and belts to make sure they’re secure and in good condition. Lastly, check the water pump. If it’s loose, it may be faulty.

Your radiator has a critical job to perform. If it fails, so, too, will your engine. Invest the time to maintain it, so you can avoid costly repair bills down the road.

Going To A Festival? Experience The Luxury Of A Caravan

by Timothy Simons Grimshaw on Jul.24, 2010, under Truck News

It was five years ago, on my annual trip to Leeds Festival that I became a caravan lover. That year I didn’t have an early pass and was desperate to find a place to camp before there was no space left when the strap on my main rucksack broke. I balanced it on my tent bag and trudged on through the, now liquid, mud. Subsequently this additional weight then broke the strap on my tent bag, leaving me stranded.

As luck would have it some friends of mine were nearby in the caravan section and helped me carry my things to their caravan. What luxury! It was only a low cost caravan but in comparison to my one-man tent in which I couldn’t lie down straight, even without my bag, it was brilliant. How jealous I was of their luxury caravan when I opened my bag to find half of my things broken and damaged by the fall in the mud.

The next year I was of course in one of those dry, warm caravans and happily watched the other festivalgoers struggle with their bags. Evidently my luck hadn’t improved and the caravan flooded. Again my new Top Shop inspired festival wardrobe was destroyed together with the majority of the caravan.

Thankfully I’d thought to check that contents were included on my caravan insurance. We didn’t have to worry about the harm to the caravan and I would even say we enjoyed living in the damp for three days. In the end, it is all part of the festival experience.

Now we have annual caravan holidays abroad, which are ideal for a low cost holiday with friends. I wouldn’t stop my caravan holidays for anything and definitely wouldn’t risk an uninsured driver hitting us and spoiling our tradition. Since the flood incident I always make sure we have the right insurance cover for whatever country we happen to go to, it’s so critical to have the right cover for European travel.

If you have an RV then you have good taste, and really know how to have fun. Enjoy your motor caravan and go on holiday. But don’t forget that holidays are meant to be stress free; with our less than reliable weather this isn’t forever the situation. Get the right cover for your trip and have a good time!

You will need to make sure that when you go to your festival of choice or off on your holiday that you have the correct caravan insurance to cover everything that could go wrong. Coversure are a trusted insurance broker with strong relationships with insurance providers. They will be able to get you the best deal on your caravan insurance.

Finding The Right Car For You

by Yves B. Geller on Jul.20, 2010, under Truck News

Buying a new car is a major decision in a person’s life, so there are many different things that you will have to remember before making this purchase. There is a great deal of money that can be lost if you make the wrong decision, so never rush anything. While it is more fun to think about the color of your car and how great you will look driving it, there are other things that you will have to worry about first.

The first thing you must think about is your personal budget. You must be able to come up with a down payment, so think about how much you can afford to put down, as well as how much you want to spend every month. You must also have an idea of how much you want to spend overall, as ignoring these factors is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. If you do not, you will likely end up spending way too much money, as your emotions are likely to get the best of you, rather than making a solid business decision.

After the budget has been taken care of, it is time to start looking for the right type of car. You must consider how many people will normally be in the car with you, which includes whether or not you have children. You should also look at whether or not you have been a speeder in the past and the type of impression that you want to make with this new vehicle. You do not need to know exactly what you are looking for before visiting a car lot, but it will definitely help if you have a general idea of what you wish to find.

Once this has been decided, you are ready to head to a car lot and begin the actual search. When a salesperson approaches you, make sure that he or she is aware of your budget and the type of vehicle that you are looking for immediately. Do not budge if the salesperson attempts to talk you into something that is outside of your price range, as this is what they have been trained to do.

Make sure that you take the car for a test-drive immediately. Do not let the salesperson talk you into simply driving around the parking lot, as you will need to see how the car performs in a number of different situations. Driving on a highway and in a residential area will give you the chance to not only pick up some speed, but also make turns and start and stop. You will also want to back the car up at some point, as this will help you test the car’s transmission.

All of these steps mean that you are taking the time to properly prepare yourself for your car shopping experience. If you are able to follow these steps, you will find yourself with the perfect car to suit your individual needs in no time at all.

Yves B. Geller authored this article. He is primarily a car hobbyist but he shows his passion for cars through vehicle customization. He offers train horns to car, truck and boat owners but he is a firm believer that a train horn should be used responsibly.
